Kieran finally decided he wanted to learn to swim without water-wings on Saturday. So overjoyed, I finished up the radio hack and jumped in.
Generally he decides when he's good and ready, and no amount of cajoling will convince him otherwise. Nevertheless, I'd been trying. His Mom's scare stories about drowning (she nearly did as a child), had made him cautious to a fault.
So I was very surprised when he actually submerged his face into the water on the first go. After a few minutes of showing him the ropes he was doing the breast stroke around the shallow end.
10 minutes later the crazy kid was jumping off the side of the pool, screaming with joy (shallow end mind you).
Still some work to do before he's an Olympic swimmer, but he's learning fast.
